Saraswathy Kindergarten

Overview

The Place Where Your Child Will Blossom

Saraswathy Kindergarten, established in 1990 by the Hindu Endowments Board, is situated at the void deck of Block 254, Kim Keat Avenue. For eight years until 1997 it was operating out of the premises of Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple in Toa Payoh.

The Kindergarten aspires to meet a pressing need of the Indian Community for pre-primary education in English and Tamil. In designing the curriculum we recognize that each child is different and hope to provide an educational experience that will meet the needs of the growing individual. Nursery classes have been introduced and a computer room with eight computers has been set up to better serve the students.

The Curriculum

The Academic Programme encompasses instruction in Tamil and English with emphasis in Mathematics and Science. Slightly more than half of instructional time is devoted to teaching English as a first language and the rest to teaching Tamil as a second language. Mathematics and Science concepts are established through interesting activities using daily experiences and extensive use of concrete materials and games. In addition, the Kindergarten introduces computers to its pupils as early as in the Nursery level.

The Physical and Aesthetics Programme include music education and art & craft which are taught weekly during curriculum time. Pupils who reveal talent in a particular area will be further groomed by encouraging participation in concerts and cultural activities. Swimming lessons are organized weekly at a neighbouring swimming complex where trained coaches provide instruction for children to acquire lifelong swimming skills.

The Enrichment Programme comprises activities conducted outside curriculum time. The Kindergarten organizes excursions to places of interest to enable the children to relate better to their class work and themes taught. A Games Day, Graduation Ceremony, visits to places of worhsip and carnivals are organized annually to supplement the curriculum.

Our Team

Our Teachers

Our facilities and curriculum, attractive though they may be, are incidental to our main strength: the quality and commitment of our teachers. Saraswathy Kindergarten’s teachers are trained in early childhood education and are continually upgrading themselves by attending courses organized by the National Institute of Education and Ministry of Education.
