Since 1999, HEB-Ashram Halfway House which was established by The Hindu Endowments Board (“HEB”) has been assisting in the rehabilitation and reintegration into society of penal offenders, probationers, drug addicts, residents and clients of halfway houses who are Singaporeans/Permanent Residents from the Hindu/Indian and other communities in Singapore. HEB-Ashram was granted IPC Status w.e.f. 1 Nov 2011.

Presently, HEB-Ashram provides a 6-month to 1-year community-based programmes for drug offenders mandated and emplaced by the Singapore Prison Service under the Halfway House New Service Model (HSM). This includes pre-care, in-care and after-care programmes for clients to address the preventative, developmental and re-integrative aspects of the rehabilitation process respectively. To achieve this end, Ashram hosts a variety of secular and non-secular programmes.

Secular based programmes involve social counselling for clients and family members, yoga sessions, pranic healing, cooking and bakery activities, English and IT literacy courses as well as community outreach programmes to old folks’ homes, places of worship and to needy families through the Gift from the Heart (“GFTH”) Project. Non-secular based rehabilitation programmes include religious (Hindu) teachings, temple visits, and participation in Hindu festivals to enhance spiritual growth and restoration of faith.

HEB-Ashram believes that these initiatives will go a long way in providing our clients with useful skills to meet their re-integrative needs. Above all, we will constantly strive to provide outstanding quality and client-centric services to inspire and rehabilitate its clients into achieving a responsible and meaningful lifestyle with the noble objective of facilitating their reintegration into our society.
